Description:Spontaneous facial expressions of emotion in primates including humans occur rapidly and last only a short period of time [17] — [20]. Rhesus macaques are frequently used as a model of human social behavior and cognition [4]. A recent study found that musculature of the human tongue contains a higher proportion of slow-twitch myosin fibers than found in rhesus macaques, which is related to the slower, more controlled movements of the human tongue used in the production of speech [21].
